THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI CLUB OF GREATER NEW YORK
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Ohio State Alumni Club of Greater New York focuses on not only recruiting students to attend Ohio State, but also raising funds for scholarships to award to high performing students from the New York City area.
The Alumni Scholarship Program (ASP) allows us to supplement two $600 awards from The Ohio State University Alumni Association with funds raised throughout the year from football game watches, fundraising events and donations. Through a competitive application process, applicants are evaluated based on academic, work and extracurricular performance, as well as financial need. The Scholarships are one-time, non-renewable awards that are applied to the student's freshman year tuition at Ohio State.
The Process: The names of local high school seniors are made known to the Club by the Alumni Association after they are accepted at the University. The Club then contacts students to give them the opportunity to apply for a Club Scholarship. Applications are reviewed by alumni volunteers, with all volunteers scoring and selecting the top candidates.
How can students qualify?
Students must:
- Be admitted to the University
- Rank in the top 25% of their high school class, and preferably in the top 10%
- Be recommended by high school teachers or counselors who can comment on their scholastic ability and character, and have a record of performance in activities in school and the community
- Reside in the area where our membership is based
OSU recruits the top students in the country. The 2009 freshman class has an average ACT score of 25.6 and SAT scores between 1175 and 1185, both up from last year. Additionally, the number of students who ranked in the top 10% of their high school class is about 35%, with almost 72% in the top 25%.
With the help of generous Club members who attend our activities and donate online, we are helping students attend the best University in the land!
